Uist News, Tuesday 4th November A cloudy but dry start to the day here on Uist today. There is rain forecast for most of the day, but it should hopefully improve this evening. Looking out of the office window this morning, we could see several rabbits hopping around in the long grass. They were slightly cautious though to avoid the very sharp thorns on the bramble bushes. Other wildlife spotted yesterday were a Treecreeper and a long-tailed Tit in Lochmaddy. The characteristic view of a treecreeper is watching it climb a tree trunk, spiraling around the outside as it finds insects in the bark. Unfortunately, it is unable to climb back down again though, so once it reaches the top it has to fly back down to the bottom of the next tree.
Miniature narcissus is just another name for a dwarf daffodil variety. Like regular-sized daffodils, they grow from fall planted bulbs and bloom in spring. The size of a dwarf daffodil depends on the variety, but generally they grow 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm.) tall with flowers that are just one and a half inches (4 cm.).
