Uist News, Monday 20th January A cloudy start to the day here on Uist this morning. It is forecast to remain the same for the rest of the day with some showers expected later. Wildlife spotted over the weekend were - adult Glaucous Gulls, a Little Gull, Common Redpolls and a Green-winged Teal. These colourful little ducks are among the fastest fliers of game birds, capable of flying around 60 mph. They are also very active on foot, capable of walking and running for long distances.
Miniature narcissus is just another name for a dwarf daffodil variety. Like regular-sized daffodils, they grow from fall planted bulbs and bloom in spring. The size of a dwarf daffodil depends on the variety, but generally they grow 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm.) tall with flowers that are just one and a half inches (4 cm.).
