Uist News, Thursday 18th April The rain was back again last night, it is forecast to last until lunchtime but it should clear later on to let the sun shine for the rest of the day. Oyster catchers, Curlews and Black-headed Gulls spent most of the afternoon yesterday on the shore behind the Smokehouse, they spent some time dining on molluscs and just enjoying the sunshine. Black-headed gulls are known to be quite sociable but can also be quarrelsome noisy birds, especially when there is plenty of food to be found, if you have a look at them through the binoculars, you will see that their head isn't really black, but more chocolate-brown and for most of the year its head is actually white!

Miniature narcissus is just another name for a dwarf daffodil variety. Like regular-sized daffodils, they grow from fall planted bulbs and bloom in spring. The size of a dwarf daffodil depends on the variety, but generally they grow 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm.) tall with flowers that are just one and a half inches (4 cm.).
